DICOM is the standard format for medical images. Manufacturers of medical imaging equipment use the DICOM format to distribute images (just as digital camera manufacturers distribute images in JPEG format).

DICOM is the acronym for Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine, it is a communications protocol as a file format with DCM or DCM30 extension (DICOM 3.0), which means that it can store medical information, such as ultrasound and MRI images, along with the information of a patient and everything in a single file, assuring us that all the data remain together, and provides the capacity to transfer this information.
